Canva Makes Forbes’ Cloud 100 2021 List
Australian startup Canva has been announced as the world’s third best private cloud company in the annual Forbes 2021 Cloud 100 list. Canva follows renowned fintech startup Stripe, having previously been voted number one in 2019, and software startup Databricks. The Australian startup and design platform is just one of just three Australian startups to make the list, with Melbourne startups Airwallex ranking at 58 and Culture Amp featuring in at 99.
Forbes’ Cloud 100 list is an annual ranking of the world’s top private cloud companies and startups, produced alongside Bessemer Venture Partners and Salesforce Ventures. The list recognises innovative tech ventures, from small startups to private-equity-backed giants. The list is judged on four key factors including market leadership (35%), estimated valuation (30%), operating metrics (20%), and people and culture (15%). Market leadership is assessed by a judging panel of 34 public cloud company CEOs.
This year’s top ten startups and companies comprised a total worth of $190 billion and featured 29 newcomers including Attentive, a remote text message marketing startup for brands. Despite the inclusion of budding startups and international companies on this year’s list, just six startups featured women-led startups. This includes Canva at 3, Guild Education ranking at 30 and LaunchDarkly at 47.
Canva is an online design and publishing service, used to craft presentations, posters, documents, graphics, and other visual content. The Australian startup combines simple design processes with positive values, including empowerment through inclusion and diversity. 2021 has proven fruitful for Canva with the announcement of $93 million in funding for a valuation of nearly $20 billion, launching co-founders Melanie Perkins and Cliff Obrecht into multi-billionaire status. Canva was founded in Perth in 2012 by the duo, who were later joined by Cameron Adams. The Australian startup has also been reaching phenomenal success with around 55 million customers, including 3 million paying for their online design and publishing tools.
